Tofino agendas: bylaw adoptions, stormwater plan and childcare policy on the table

Tofino's council and two of its committees were scheduled to meet three times in the past two weeks, but none of those meetings has published minutes yet. Everything below comes from agendas: it is what was set to be considered, not a record of what was decided.

Council: bylaw adoptions and a housing tax presentation

The District of Tofino Regular Council was scheduled to meet October 6, 2026 at 4:30 PM at the Clayoquot Sound Theatre and via Zoom. The agenda lists Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 1366, 2026 for first, second and third reading and adoption, along with a series of other bylaws listed for adoption:

Council was also scheduled to receive a presentation on the 2027 Tofino Housing Corporation Affordable Housing MRDT Plan, and to consider minutes from its September 1 and September 29, 2026 meetings. A closed session was scheduled under sections 90(1)(c) and (i) of the Community Charter, for labour relations and solicitor-client privilege matters.

Committee of the Whole: stormwater plan and childcare policy

The Committee of the Whole was scheduled to meet September 29, 2026 to receive the 2026 Stormwater Master Plan for information (Appendix 1 to a staff report dated September 29, 2026). The committee was also to consider authorizing staff to develop a priority childcare placement policy for Council's consideration — a step that, if approved, would direct staff work rather than adopt a policy. A verbal report on Tofino Volunteer Fire Department service levels from Community Services was on the agenda, along with adoption of the August 18, 2026 minutes and a public comment and question period via Zoom Q&A, 10 minutes total.

Accessibility Committee: procedural agenda

The Accessibility Committee was scheduled to meet October 1, 2026 at 6:00 pm via Zoom. The agenda was largely procedural: adopting the agenda, adopting minutes from the May 5, 2026 meeting, and adjournment. New business items were listed without detail — previous committee recommendations and next steps, a library update, Tofino Housing Corp and the Disability Committee, grants, and election considerations.

What the record does not show

No minutes have been published for any of these three meetings, so no votes, outcomes or decisions are established here. The supplied summaries contain no vote tallies and no dollar amounts. Whether any item was adopted, amended, deferred or defeated is not known from this record.

Coming up

No upcoming meetings were listed in the supplied data for the next 14 days. Residents should check the District of Tofino's published agendas and minutes for scheduling.

Tofino council to consider $61M water project, $1.58M road contract

Tofino council is set to consider several significant items over the next two weeks, including a $1.58 million road construction contract, a $61.28 million water supply expansion, and changes to housing rules. All items are on meeting agendas; no decisions have been made yet.

Construction contracts

At its August 11 regular council meeting, council will consider awarding two construction contracts:

Housing and land use

Also on August 11, council will hold a public hearing on an Official Community Plan (OCP) amendment for 740 Campbell Street. The change would alter the land use designation from Peninsula to Future Homes, allowing a proposed 21-unit multi-family building in partnership with the Tofino Housing Corporation. No decision will be made at the hearing; council will consider input at a later meeting. Written submissions were due by August 10.

The same council meeting includes second readings of the OCP amendment and a related zoning bylaw for 740 Campbell Street, as well as a rescinding and re-reading of Housing Agreement Bylaw No. 1356 for 691 Campbell Street.

Water supply

At the August 18 Committee of the Whole meeting, council will review a Source Water Assessment that recommends the Ahkmahksis Reservoir Expansion as the preferred near- to medium-term water supply option. The estimated cost is $61.28 million, with a range of $36.8 million to $85.8 million. Council will also consider authorizing exploration of Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) or progressive design-build procurement for water infrastructure.

Parks and other items

Both the August 11 council meeting and the August 18 committee meeting will consider endorsing the 2026 Tofino Recreation and Parks Master Plan. The committee will also receive verbal reports on the 2026 Q2 financial report and the 2026 Q2 action tracking report.

Coming up

No upcoming meetings are listed in the next 14 days.
