Stratford planning committee proposes rescinding townhouse approval over bylaw error

Stratford town council committees discussed several development proposals and municipal projects this past fortnight, though no final decisions were made as the meetings remain in agenda stage with minutes yet to be published.

Townhouse approval faces rescission over bylaw violation

The Planning, Development and Heritage committee, meeting June 29, voted on a recommendation to rescind a previously approved townhouse development on Swallow Drive. The original approval (Resolution PH054-2025) allowed two to five unit townhouse buildings, but a legal review found that the zoning bylaw permits only one main building per lot in the applicable zone, making the earlier approval invalid. The committee’s recommendation to rescind will go to full council for a final vote.

Other planning items

The same committee considered a special permit for an auto detailing business at 41 Hollis Avenue (PID 398693) and recommended approval. Members also set a public meeting for a proposed six-bay car wash at 14 Irving Avenue (PID 610550). Both items will proceed to council for formal action.

Committee of the Whole discussions

On June 24, the Committee of the Whole reviewed financial statements for the Stratford Community Seniors’ Complex and discussed an update on electric vehicle charger locations and design.
