Logan Lake council weighs new OCP, zoning bylaws; trails strategy reviewed
Logan Lake council held a public hearing and regular meeting on Aug. 11 to consider two major planning documents: a new Official Community Plan and a new zoning bylaw. No decisions were made at the hearing, and minutes from the council meeting have not yet been published. A separate committee met Aug. 19 to review a 15-year trails strategy.
Public hearing and council meeting (Aug. 11)
The public hearing addressed two proposed bylaws: Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 963, 2026, which would replace the 2010 OCP, and Zoning Bylaw No. 964, 2026, which would replace the 2010 zoning bylaw. The proposed OCP includes policies on housing, economic development, transportation, environmental protection, and climate action. The zoning bylaw would regulate land uses, densities, building sizes, setbacks, parking, and home-based businesses. Public notices were posted July 27 and Aug. 3, 2026, and ministry and agency referrals were emailed June 23, 2026. Council will consider public input before any adoption.
The regular council meeting agenda included potential adoption of both bylaws, a bylaw to repeal the Television Society Grant-in-Aid (Bylaw No. 965), a further budget amendment for Ironstone Phase 4A, a vehicle replacement tender for a 2015 Chevrolet 1500 pickup (F350), and a recommendation to approve a vac truck and operator for a BCIT wetland restoration fencing project. All items were listed as agenda items; no outcomes are available because minutes have not been published.
Youth and Community Services Committee (Aug. 19)
The committee reviewed the final Logan Lake and Area Trails Strategy (April 2026), which outlines a 15-year vision for trail improvements, including connectivity, maintenance, and tourism. High-priority projects include an ORV trail link to the commercial core, an upgrade to the Logan Lake South Trail Network, and an upgrade to the main Logan Lake North Trailhead. The strategy also recommends developing accessible trail routes and a potential ORV campground and staging area near the Logan Lake Townsite. The committee adopted minutes from its June 17, 2026 meeting. No new business was listed.
Coming up
The Education and Environmental Stewardship Committee will meet Aug. 28. The agenda is largely procedural, including adoption of the July 31, 2026 minutes and an update on September projects. The update covers a Sept. 16–20, 2026 project with 19 students attending, and a pending approval from the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship for Chartrand Creek restoration and wetland fencing. No decisions are expected at this meeting.
