Mayor declares state of emergency for Schreiber wastewater plant clarifier failures

On August 1, 2024 at 8:06 pm, Mayor Kevin Mullins declared a State of Emergency for the Schreiber Wastewater Treatment Plant. Clarifier One suffered a structural failure that let water enter the digester, halting treatment. Clarifier Two remained operational but then experienced a mechanical failure of its rake system, and a contractor is on site pumping it out with completion expected on August 2, 2024. After Clarifier Two is drained and cleaned, repairs to both clarifiers will begin, and officials say there will be no impact on residents or ratepayers.
